Tottenham in advanced talks to sign Mason Melia

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced talks to sign Crystal Palace and Everton attacking target Mason Melia.

There has been a massive change in Tottenham’s transfer policies since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou. The North London club have been focusing on signing some of the best young talents and according to a report from Football Insider, Spurs are now going after the signature of Mason Melia.

They are in advanced talks to sign the Irish teenage attacking sensation but could face significant competition for his services from Everton as well as Crystal Palace.

Melia has come up the ranks at St Patrick’s Athletic. He got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2023 and has already featured in over 50 matches for their senior side. The 17-year-old striker already has 10 goals to his name at the senior level.

He has made a total of 35 appearances across all competitions in 2024 and has contributed towards nine goals (7 goals, 2 assists). Apart from his impressive rise in club football, Melia has done wonders for Ireland at the youth level.

His sensational rise along with his consistent performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs. Tottenham, Everton and Crystal Palace are three English clubs that are after his signature.

The Eagles have a reputation for signing young stars and giving them a platform to announce themselves to the world. They are interested in the young striker as they feel he has the potential to make it big.

Meanwhile, Everton seek more quality in the final third and they believe Melia could be a great addition to their squad in the long run. The Merseyside club have a long-standing interest in him and they are plotting a raid on St Patrick’s.

Spurs front-runners to sign Melia

While the Toffees and the Eagles are keen on his signature, Spurs are pushing hard to ensure they secure his services. Having signed quite a few young stars to their squad in recent windows, Tottenham now want to add Melia to their setup and they are in advanced talks to secure his services.

They believe in his potential and are looking to strike a deal worth around €1 million (£825,000) to bring the Irish international to the Premier League. They are in negotiations with the clubs and have already invited the teenager to their training base. They even had him as a matchday guest for their game against Chelsea last week.

While his contract at the Irish club runs until 2026 and he can’t move to England until he turns 18 next September, Spurs are looking to reach a pre-agreement to sign him just like they did with Lucas Bergvall back in the day.
