Manchester United won’t go after the signature of Bayer Leverkusen ace Victor Boniface because of his injury record.
According to a report from Fussball.news, Manchester United are interested in Victor Boniface’s services but they have decided against making a move for the Bayer Leverkusen striker because of his susceptibility to injury.
An impressive season with Union SG in Belgium was enough to convince Leverkusen that Boniface was a special player. They ended up signing him in the summer of 2023 and he played a massive part in their incredible run last season where they won the Bundesliga unbeaten.
The 23-year-old Nigerian international established himself as a key figure in the German club’s first team in no time. So far, he has featured in 49 matches for Xabi Alonso’s team and has contributed towards 40 goals (29 goals, 11 assists).
Nine of those goal contributions have come in the ongoing season. Boniface’s incredible form in front of goal has resulted in a significant amount of interest. Multiple top clubs are interested in his services and Manchester United are one of them.
While the Red Devils have made significant efforts to bolster their attack in recent windows, they are still looking to bring in a proven goal scorer who can give Ruben Amorim the needed firepower in the final third of the pitch.
United identify a flaw in Boniface
United have him on their wishlist but he is not a hot topic at Old Trafford. Despite his incredible form in front of goal, the Manchester-based club are not confident about making a move for him. They have identified a major flaw in the Nigerian international. He is injury-prone and has already suffered two cruciate ligament tears in the past.
Last season, he spent a significant amount of time on the sidelines because of an adductor injury. Meanwhile, he returned from the international break with a thigh injury. His injury track record is a major reason why United do not want to invest in him.
Boniface to sign a new deal at Leverkusen
Meanwhile, Leverkusen consider him an integral part of their plans and they do not want to part ways with the 23-year-old. His current deal runs until the summer of 2028 and they are looking to extend it by another year.
Boniface currently earns €3 million per season, the German outfit are all set to increase his wages significantly and make him one of their top earners. Meanwhile, the player is also happy to continue at his current club.
