West Ham United have reportedly contacted Serie A giants Napoli to discuss a move for 29-year-old Argentine striker Giovanni Simeone.
According to a report by Football Transfers, Giovanni Simeone is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are scouring the market for a striker ahead of the January transfer window. So, they have set their sights on the Napoli striker while contacting the Serie A giants to discuss a possible winter deal for the 29-year-old attacker.
Giovanni Simeone and his career so far
Giovanni Simeone has been in and out of the starting lineup since joining Napoli from Hellas Verona. A native of Buenos Aires, the South American attacker spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the youth division at River Plate. However, he has risen in prominence during his spell in Serie A, arriving in Italy in August 2016.
Napoli initially signed Simeone on loan in August 2022 before completing a permanent move 12 months later. However, the 29-year-old has not been a regular starter for the Serie A giants, with his stock plummetting this season. The player has managed only 316 minutes of game time across 13 appearances in all competitions this season, chipping in with one goal and one assist.
However, Simeone’s stock in the market remains high, and an adventure in the Premier League might be on the cards. West Ham United will be one of the prospective suitors to land the Argentine striker, with the East London club reaching out to Napoli to discuss a move for the experienced attacker.
London calling?
West Ham United’s interest in Giovanni Simeone is understandable. The East London outfit signed Niclas Fullkrug in the summer transfer window as a short-term solution for the central striker’s berth. However, fitness issues have plagued the German international, who has barely been available to represent West Ham this season.
In addition, Michail Antonio is in the twilight of his career, while Danny Ings is a peripheral figure. So, several strikers, including Evan Ferguson, have emerged on West Ham’s radar. However, Simeone is also a viable target, and the Hammers have contacted Napoli regarding a move for the Argentine international.
While Simeone has failed to stamp his authority in the 2024/25 season, he is at the peak of his powers. So, regular football at West Ham should appeal to him if his situation at the Serie A club does not improve in the coming weeks.
