Chelsea are keen on bringing back Marc Guehi next year, seeking to strengthen their backline further with their former star.
According to TBR, Chelsea are considering a big move for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi next year. They could potentially even think about a January move for their former star, as the Eagles are likely to concede defeat in their efforts to keep him.
Marc Guehi could become the next big transfer saga in the Premier League as he inches close to a departure from Crystal Palace. The defender was expected to leave Selhurst Park in the summer, as Newcastle United failed with at least four separate bids for the England international, as the London side stood firm on their asking price.
Palace wanted to sell their star defender for £70 million or more and might have risked raking in the money by keeping him. It’s getting clearer that Guehi will not sign a new deal at the club, which will see him enter the final year of his deal next summer, meaning Palace will cash in on him.
Newcastle United retain an interest, although they will find it extremely difficult compared to last summer in this chase. Manchester United and Liverpool are among those keen, while Chelsea are also in the market for a new centre-back. They, too, could eye a move for the £70 million-rated former star.
Guehi came through the Chelsea academy and featured just twice for their first team, both of which came in the EFL Cup. Chelsea have remained interested in re-signing him in the future, and now they could find themselves in a top position to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.
Will Chelsea re-sign Marc Guehi?
The Blues have started their campaign very well under Enzo Maresca, although they will feel the need to add a top-notch centre-back next. They do lack some experience at the back, and while Guehhi is still young in that aspect, he packs massive know-how of the league, having made more than 120 appearances for Palace.
He would not be opposed to re-joining his old club, but the £70 million-rated former star will certainly have many more suitors when he decides to leave Palace. Moreover, Chelsea must qualify for the Champions League to stand a stronger chance of bringing Guehi to the club, as their failure to do so could cost them the pursuit of players like the Palace skipper.
