Manchester United will reportedly look to sign 22-year-old Portuguese full-back prospect Nuno Mendes from Paris Saint-Germain next year.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Nuno Mendes is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Premier League heavyweights are scouring the market for a left-back ahead of the two transfer windows next year. So, the 22-year-old Paris Saint-Germain full-back has emerged as a target for the Red Devils.
The Nuno Mendes story
Nuno Mendes has established himself as one of the best young left-back prospects in the world since joining Paris Saint-Germain from Sporting CP. The young full-back was already a highly-rated prodigy during his spell in Portugal but has come leaps and bounds in the last three years.
PSG initially signed Mendes on loan in August 2021 before completing a permanent move in the 2022 summer transfer window. The 22-year-old has endured a few fitness issues but has made his mark in his 93 appearances thus far for Les Parisiens while chipping in with four goals and 13 assists.
Mendes has also become a regular for Portugal in the last few years, turning out 33 times thus far for the Seleccao. Meanwhile, the Portuguese international’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Manchester United.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Manchester United’s interest in Nuno Mendes is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for an attack-minded left-back who can play as a wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s preferred system. Luke Shaw has struggled with persistent fitness issues throughout his spell with Manchester United, while Tyrell Malacia has been unavailable since the start of the 2024/25 season.
So, Manchester United should invest in a top-notch attacking left-back, with several candidates, including Alphonso Davies, emerging on their radar. However, Mendes is also a viable target, with the youngster somewhat familiar with Amorim’s system after playing under him during their time together at Sporting CP.
The 22-year-old can be a long-term solution on the left flank for Manchester United, considering his potential and age profile. However, compelling PSG to part ways with the Portuguese international might be a tall order for the Premier League heavyweights.
