Miguel Almiron is reportedly working on leaving Newcastle United in the January transfer window, although his £60,000-a-week wages might pose a problem.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Miguel Almiron will look to resurrect his stuttering career by leaving Newcastle United in the January transfer window. The Paraguayan international is courting interest from Boca Juniors, Palmeiras, River Plate, Saudi Pro League clubs, and MLS outfits. However, his £60,000-a-week wages pose a problem for most of his suitors.
Miguel Almiron and his Newcastle United spell so far
Miguel Almiron has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Newcastle United from Atlanta United in a then-club-record deal in January 2019. The South American attacker has enjoyed memorable phases during his stint with the Tyneside outfit but also endured periods when he has been a bit-part player.
The 30-year-old has seen his stock plummet in the last few months, and he has managed only 254 minutes of game time across seven appearances for Newcastle United in all competitions thus far in the 2024/25 season. So, it is hardly surprising that a January departure from St. James’ Park is on the cards for Almiron.
Recent reports have suggested that the Magpies are ready to cash in on the Paraguayan attacker in the January transfer window after failing to offload him this past summer. Meanwhile, Almiron’s stock in the market remains high, with several well-known clubs pursuing his signature ahead of the winter window.
What next?
Premier League clubs have mulled over signing Miguel Almiron in the January transfer window ahead of his expected winter departure. Meanwhile, recent reports have pointed to River Plate failing with a bid to sign the South American attacker. The Argentine giants are not the only club from the continent pursuing his signature.
Apart from River Plate, Boca Juniors and Palmeiras are also interested in signing Almiron from Newcastle United. However, the 30-year-old forward’s £60,000-a-week wages pose a problem for the South American clubs. Meanwhile, Saudi Pro League and MLS outfits are also keen on signing the Newcastle United attacker.
Almiron’s £60,000-a-week wages should not be an issue for Saudi Pro League clubs. With the Paraguayan international working on sealing a departure from St. James’ Park in the January transfer window, it will be interesting to see where he lands this winter.
