Manchester United and PSG have reportedly offered bids close to €100 million to sign 27-year-old Nigerian international Ademola Lookman from Serie A club Atalanta.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ademola Lookman is growing in popularity in the market ahead of the two transfer windows next year. Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have submitted bids worth around €100 million to sign the 27-year-old versatile attacker from Serie A club Atalanta.
Ademola Lookman and his long search for stability
Ademola Lookman has finally found his calling at Atalanta after struggling to make his mark in the Premier League and Bundesliga. The London-born forward was all the rage when he progressed through the ranks at Charlton Athletic before breaking into the club’s first-team squad as a teenage sensation.
However, the 27-year-old failed to make his mark at Everton, Fulham, Leicester City, and RB Leipzig. Lookman’s fortunes have finally changed at Atalanta, and he played his part as La Dea won the UEFA Europa League title last season, scoring the match-winning hat-trick in the final. The player has continued in a similar vein in the first few months of the 2024/25 campaign.
The Nigerian international has contributed to 13 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net eight times and providing five assists. Meanwhile, Lookman’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs in Europe, including Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
Attracting the bigwigs
Manchester United’s interest in Ademola Lookman is understandable. The Red Devils will benefit from signing a versatile attacker, considering Ruben Amorim appreciates that quality from his players. So, the Atalanta forward is a viable target, with Manchester United offering close to €100 million to the Serie A club to secure his services.
As for PSG, Kylian Mbappe’s departure has left a gaping hole in the offensive department, with Randal Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos failing to fill that void. Lookman is thus an option worth considering, with PSG, like Manchester United, lodging a bid worth around €100 million to sign him from Atalanta.
A nine-figure sum might tempt the Serie A club to cash in on Lookman and reinvest the proceeds to reinforce the first-team squad. However, with other European bigwigs also keen, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United and PSG can beat them with offers worth close to €100 million.
