San Diego confident of signing Kevin De Bruyne

Major League Soccer outfit San Diego are confident about striking a deal for the services of Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne.

San Diego who will kick start their journey in the MLS in 2025 are looking to make Kevin De Bruyne one of their designated players. They are holding talks to sign the Manchester City star on a free transfer and according to a report from HITC, the newly founded American outfit are confident about signing the Belgian international.

Things might not have worked out for De Bruyne at Chelsea but he managed to get his career back on track at Wolfsburg. On the back of his performances at the German club, he returned to the Premier League to join Manchester City in the summer of 2015 and hasn’t looked back since.

The 33-year-old Belgian attacking midfielder has been one of the most important players for City under Pep Guardiola. He has played a pivotal role in helping them win numerous league titles and also ended their wait for their first Champions League title.

The Belgian international has had some fitness concerns in recent seasons and he hasn’t really been at his best. While City would still love to have him around for a few more years, his contract is running out at the end of the season and there are high chances of him leaving as a free agent to try a new experience elsewhere.

De Bruyne could join Messi in the MLS

De Bruyne has been linked with a move to America where San Diego have emerged as a potential destination. The newly founded MLS outfit that will be in action starting in 2025 can sign up to three ‘designated players’ who do not count under the wage cap as per the MLS rules.

The rule allowed Inter Miami to sign Lionel Messi and it could help San Diego sign the City star as they have a similar deal lined up. They are in talks with the player’s camp and those talks seem to have reached an advanced stage in recent weeks.

The MLS outfit are confident that De Bruyne will arrive in California next summer on a free transfer. Meanwhile, the player has been assured by Belgian head coach Domenico Tedesco that playing in America or the Middle East won’t affect his chances of featuring at the 2026 World Cup making things easier for the former Chelsea midfielder.

While Saudi Pro League clubs will present a massive challenge for San Diego as they can offer him a massive paycheck, San Diego remain confident as his family prefers moving to America over the Middle East.
