Antony uninterested in Manchester United exit amid Lorran swap rumours

Antony does not want to leave Manchester United amid rumours suggesting a swap deal involving his 18-year-old compatriot Lorran might be on the cards.

According to an update by reputed Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, Antony wants to stay and fight for his future at Manchester United. The Red Devils are reportedly keen on using the Brazilian international in a deal to sign his 18-year-old compatriot Lorran from Flamengo. However, Nicola has refuted those claims, with the incumbent keen on remaining at Old Trafford.

Antony and his regrettable Manchester United decision

Antony has been one of the latest expensive flops for Manchester United since arriving from Ajax in a big-money deal in August 2022. The outlay seemed preposterous at the time, considering the South American winger’s output at the Dutch club. Since then, he has not done much to help his case.

While Antony’s start to life as a Manchester United player was memorable, he has constantly struggled to make his mark in the last 24 months. That has continued in the 2024/25 season, with the 24-year-old winger managing only 155 minutes of game time across five appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.

In addition, the Brazilian international has lost his spot in his national team, with his situation going from bad to worse. So, it is hardly surprising that Manchester United have thought about using the expensive flop in a deal to sign Lorran from Flamengo.

What next?

Manchester United’s interest in Lorran is understandable. While the teenage sensation is primarily an attacking midfielder, he is equally adept at playing as a winger on both flanks. Those qualities should make the 18-year-old offensive prospect an ideal fit in Ruben Amorim’s system if the new Manchester United manager implements his preferred setup.

However, Jorge Nicola has refuted the claims of the recent reports, contacting Antony’s entourage to enquire about the situation. The 24-year-old Brazilian international is not interested in leaving Manchester United anytime soon, and he wants to stay and fight for his future at Old Trafford.

Recent reports have claimed that Antony might get a lifeline at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, who will closely monitor every player before deciding on their futures. It will be interesting to see if the former Ajax winger can win over the Portuguese tactician to remain at Old Trafford for the long haul.
