Manchester City save funds for two significant January signings

Manchester City have saved funds to bolster their squad with two high-profile signings in the upcoming January transfer window.

Manchester City have not been at their best in the initial phase of the 2024/25 season. They have been hit by quite a few injuries and according to a report from Football Insider, the Premier League champions are looking to reinforce their squad in winter to help out Pep Guardiola. They have saved funds for two significant signings that could help them get things back on track.

While Guardiola prefers to introduce fresh faces in the summer, Manchester City have been forced to think about making significant investments into their squad in January. They lost Rodri to a major knee injury quite early in the season. He is all set to be out for a while.

Apart from the Spanish international, Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish, John Stones, and Oscar Bobb are all currently out injured. Guardiola has openly talked about how the number of injuries have affected his team. The defeat against Bournemouth and Sporting CP have made it quite clear that his team are struggling to cope with these absences.

City to sign two stars in January

In order to ensure they can fight for major titles, the Manchester City board has decided to go big in the winter. Their first priority will be to sign a new defensive midfielder who can help cover for Rodri. They are already laying out the groundwork to sign a top midfielder.

The Premier League champions have the resources available to sign not just one but two world-class stars in 2025. Apart from a number six, City could look to bring in a new forward after they decided against signing a replacement for Julian Alvarez in the summer.

The Argentine international ended up joining Atletico Madrid, and his departure means Manchester City do not have an ideal cover for Erling Haaland. While Phil Foden and James McAtee can fill in, Guardiola seeks an out-and-out goal scorer. The Citizens raised significant funds by selling Alvarez, and those funds could now be used to sign top stars in the winter.
