West Ham United are reportedly willing to pay £30 million to sign 23-year-old Brazilian international Igor Jesus, with intermediaries signalling the East London club’s intention.
According to a report by Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Igor Jesus is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on reinforcing their offensive department by signing a striker next year. So, the Brazilian international has emerged as a target, with the East London club ready to cough up £30 million to secure his services, signalling their intention through agents.
Igor Jesus and his progress of late
Igor Jesus has established himself as one of the best young prospects in his homeland since joining Botafogo from Shadal Al-Ahli in the summer transfer window. The striker has hit the ground running at the Nilton Santos Olympics Stadoum, making his mark for the club.
The 23-year-old has turned out 22 times thus far for Botafogo while chipping in with eight goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Jesus’s progress at the Brazilian Serie A club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, especially in the Premier League.
Recent reports have linked the Brazilian international with Premier League bigwigs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle United. However, West Ham United will look to beat the competition to the signature of the Botafogo striker next year.
London calling?
West Ham United’s interest in Igor Jesus is understandable. The East London club signed Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window, hoping to see the German international become the undisputed first-choice striker amid the advancing years of Michail Antonio and Danny Ings.
However, Fullkrug has struggled with fitness issues since joining West Ham United, forcing the Premier League outfit into the market. Jesus has thus emerged as a viable target for West Ham, with the Hammers ready to cough up £30 million to secure his services. The report has claimed that they have signalled to Botafogo through intermediaries their intention to pay £30 million to sign Jesus.
However, Botafogo will only respond when the Hammers present their official bid. It will be interesting to see if West Ham can succeed with the proposal worth £30 million to sign the 23-year-old Brazilian international.
