Manchester United planning wonderkid signing amid Chris Rigg links

Manchester United are planning on making a move for Chris Rigg ahead of the January transfer window as they are keen to develop the teenager.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United are eager to beat rivals in the race for Chris Rigg. The Sunderland teenager is one of the hottest prospects from the Championship after a glowing start to the season that has kept the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea closely interested in the chase.

INEOS arrived at Manchester United earlier this year with the intention of running football operations, and they have done a fairly decent job so far. Last week, they probably made their biggest decision by appointing Ruben Amorim in place of the sacked Erik ten Hag, and this might represent a change of culture at the club.

Manchester United might have made some mistakes in the summer by giving Erik ten Hag a new deal and heavily investing in the transfer market. Meanwhile, the arrival of Amorim will probably place greater emphasis on player development and a change of style at the club.

The Red Devils are now keen on bringing in young prospects they can develop for the future, with Sunderland’s teenage sensation Chris Rigg high on their list. The Black Cats are not overly keen to sell him in January, although the growing interest in him could lead to a decision ahead of the winter window.

There’s a reported £20-30 million price tag that Sunderland would like suitors to pay for the teenager, as Manchester United plan on swooping for the rising star. Rigg had his breakthrough season last time out, and in this campaign, he has already surpassed last season’s minutes with 11 starts out of his 12 games.

Manchester United face intense competition for Rigg

Manchester United are eager to bring a player like Chris Rigg to develop him into a future superstar, and he could be a highlight of their new transfer policy. While they might convince Sunderland to sell the teenager and convince Rigg of the idea of developing his game with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo as the benchmark, the Red Devils will have to evade competition from Chelsea and Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have been interested in Rigg for a long time and view him as having a bright future at the Santiago Bernabeu. Chelsea are always eager to sign young talents, as they have done in recent years. Hence, Manchester United will face big competition from those duo for a talent like Rigg, and they must be swift in their approach and capture the teenager ahead of the January window.
