A host of Premier League clubs are monitoring Nathan Zeze’s performances ahead of a move in the next window or summer.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Nathan Zeze has huge admirers from the Premier League. The 19-year-old centre-back prodigy could be the latest to leave a Ligue 1 club. Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Liverpool are among those who have watched the defender this season, and a January move could be on the cards.
At 6ft 3in, Nathan Zeze has been an imposing figure in Nantes’s backline this season. He has started in six of the eight games for them in Ligue 1, conceding just nine goals overall, with only six other teams conceding less than Nantes this season in the French top flight. His breakthrough arrived last term when he made 13 appearances and accumulated over 1,000 minutes in the process.
This time around, the Frenchman seems like an established part of that backline, although there are doubts Nantes would be able to hold on to him for longer, as top Premier League sides are showing significant interest. Aston Villa, Chelsea and Liverpool are in the mix for the 19-year-old Ligue 1 centre-back prodigy, and a January approach could be on the cards.
Those three sides are also keen on Castello Lukeba, although owing to the higher costs involved in a deal to land the RB Leipzig man, they might turn their attention towards Zeze. Scouts from Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Liverpool have watched the defender in action, as they all need a left-footed defender. Nantes reporteldy want £17 million for him, which may not seem like a problem for Premier League sides.
Arsenal are also keen on Zeze, but it appears the others are more in need of a player in Zeze’s mould. Aston Villa are seeking an able competitor for Pau Torres, as well as adding defensive depth in the position of the Spaniard. They have the funds and could rush towards making a move ahead of the January window.
Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in Zeze
Liverpool are probably interested keeping in mind the uncertain future of Virgil van Dijk. Moreover, they do not have a left-footed centre-back in their ranks at all, meaning bringing in someone like Zeze will not depend on the Dutchman leaving, although the 19-year-old centre-back prodigy could well be seen as a long-term successor to the Netherlands skipper.
Chelsea are still balancing their squad, and are figuring out which players suit their project in the long run. They have some well known left-footed defenders. But of the lot, only Levi Colwill seems to fit their big picture, and it won’t come as a surprise if they add a top talent like Zeze to their ranks in the next window or summer.
