Pep Guardiola a step closer to leaving Manchester City after Txiki Begiristain decision

Manchester City have suffered a major setback in their efforts to extend Pep Guardiola’s tenure following Txiki Begiristain’s decision.

According to a report from Football Insider, Txiki Begiristain’s decision to leave Manchester City at the end of the season could play a massive part in Pep Guardiola’s future at the club. The duo together have been responsible for all the success that the Premier League outfit have had in recent years. The Spanish manager now seems to be a step closer to leaving the Manchester-based club following Begiristain’s decision.

Begiristain took charge as Manchester City’s sporting director back in 2012. He was the man who appointed Guardiola the manager at Barcelona back in the day, and he played a massive part in bringing the Spanish tactician to the club in the summer of 2016.

Post the arrival of Guardiola, Manchester City have dominated English football, and they even fulfilled their desire to win the UEFA Champions League with a historic treble in the 2022/23 season. After over 12 years at the club, the 60-year-old has decided to step down at the end of the season.

Will Guardiola leave Manchester City?

Begiristain’s decision to leave could influence Guardiola whose contract at the Manchester-based club runs out at the end of the season. Given the kind of success he has brought to the club, the fans are trying their best to convince him to pen down a new deal.

The supporters even unveiled a new banner last weekend against Fulham as they look to ensure the former Bayern Munich boss stays at the club. But, his future remains uncertain and Begiristain’s decision has now resulted in a lot of talk about Pep Guardiola potentially leaving at the end of the season.

Manchester City are keen on having him around for as long as possible, and they have given the Spanish manager the full freedom to decide his future. There is already an offer on the table for Guardiola and he can sign it whenever he feels like it.

If he decides to take a break after a nine-year-long successful stint at the Premier League club, Manchester City will accept it and look to bring in an ideal replacement. For now, Begiristain’s decision to leave has further fueled speculation about Guardiola’s future.
