Everton prioritising Giovanni van Bronckhorst as Sean Dyche replacement

Everton will reportedly prioritise landing 49-year-old Dutch tactician Giovanni van Bronckhorst to replace Sean Dyche if things do not improve.

According to a report by Turkish outlet Dirilis Postasi, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are scouring the market for candidates to replace Sean Dyche amid a horrendous start to the 2024/25 season. So, they have identified the 49-year-old Besiktas manager as an option to take over from Dyche if things do not improve.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his transition from a footballer to a manager

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has remained in the spotlight since transitioning from a footballer to a manager. A legendary left-back during his professional career, the Dutchman represented the Netherlands over 100 times while turning out for high-profile clubs like Feyenoord, Arsenal, and Barcelona.

The 49-year-old hung up his boots in 2010 and entered the managerial sphere in 2012, taking charge of Feyenoord’s under-21 side. Since then, van Bronckhorst has managed Feyenoord, Guangzhou R&F, Rangers, and Besiktas, joining the latter ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The Dutch tactician has enjoyed a decent start to the 2024/25 season, with Besiktas winning the Turkish Super Cup by cruising to a 5-0 win over Galatasaray. While his charges are third in the Super Lig standings, he has shown positive signs with his managerial style. That might have captured Everton’s attention, with the Merseyside club mulling over securing his services.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Giovanni van Bronckhorst is understandable. The Toffees are scouring the market for candidates to replace Sean Dyche after a below-par start to the 2024/25 season. Dyche’s charges are 16th in the Premier League standings after managing only one win in their first seven outings.

So, the pressure is building on Dyche, with Everton identifying Maurizio Sarri as one of the candidates to replace him. The latest update has revealed that van Bronckhorst is the priority target for taking over from Dyche at Goodison Park. Interestingly, another Super Lig manager, Jose Mourinho, was a target for Everton. However, the former Chelsea boss is happy at Fenerbahce.

The Besiktas manager also initially turned down Everton but might open up to the possibility of joining the Merseyside outfit if the situation at the Turkish club does not improve. It will be interesting to see if Everton can lure the 49-year-old Dutch legend to Goodison Park.
