Djordje Petrovic hopes to extend Chelsea career despite summer loan exit

Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic still hopes to break into their first team under Enzo Maresca despite being sent out on loan during the summer.

According to a report from GiveMeSport, Djordje Petrovic, who is currently on loan at RC Strasbourg, still has hopes of returning to Chelsea and breaking into their first team. The Serbian shot-stopper wants to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge and is doing his best while on loan to be considered for the number one spot.

Petrovic made the move to the West London club in the summer of 2023 in a £12.5 million deal after an impressive spell at New England Revolution. While not many expected him to be their preferred choice ahead of Robert Sanchez, the 25-year-old ended up making the most number of appearances under Mauricio Pochettino.

But, the departure of the Argentine manager and the arrival of Enzo Maresca has not really gone according to plan for him. Sanchez became the preferred choice in goal under the Italian tactician, and the Blues even ended up signing Filip Jorgensen.

Eventually, they decided to send Djordje Petrovic out on loan to sister club RC Strasbourg. The Serbian international’s temporary departure has put question marks on his future at the club. While his contract at Stamford Bridge runs until the summer of 2030, they could look to sell him next summer when is back at the club.

Petrovic wants to revive his Chelsea career

The 25-year-old seems to have other ideas, and he does not consider his Chelsea career to be over. Djordje Petrovic hopes to extend his career at the West London club, and he is trying to do his best during his loan spell as he wants to be considered for the number-one position upon his return.

The Serb still hopes to work his way into the plans of Maresca, and the Chelsea staff are believed to be keeping a close eye on his development at the French club. While Petrovic has only featured in four matches for the Ligue 1 outfit, he has started to impress one and all with his performances and it won’t be a surprise if the Blues are forced to consider reinstating him in their team.
