Chelsea are reportedly keeping a close eye on Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap ahead of a potential move to Stamford Bridge.
According to Simon Phillips via his Substack, Chelsea’s search for a new number nine continues, and they now seem to be interested in the services of Liam Delap, who has put in impressive performances for Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
Delap was a part of the Manchester City youth ranks. While he did have a few decent spells away from the Manchester-based club, the 21-year-old was unable to break into their first team. In search of regular first-team action, the Englishman ended up joining Ipswich Town in the recently concluded transfer window.
The English youth international has enjoyed an impressive start to his Ipswich career. He has scored three goals in his six Premier League outings, and his performances have not gone unnoticed. Chelsea are one of the clubs who are keeping a close eye on him.
The Blues wanted to sign a world-class striker during the summer. It might not have gone according to their plan, but they still remain keen on bolstering their attack. Despite the exceptional performance of their forwards, the London club are looking at potential targets.
Chelsea are interested in Delap’s services
The 21-year-old striker is well known amongst Enzo Maresca and the other key figures at Stamford Bridge. They have started monitoring him as a potential target and could knock on the doors of Ipswich in the future. While Delap is on their wishlist, he is not one of their top targets as they are also looking at the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and Evan Ferguson.
Signing a striker was a top priority for them during the summer, but that is no longer the case. Nicolas Jackson was inconsistent last season, but he seems to be in fine form in the new campaign. His performances going forward will have a big say on whether Chelsea move to bring in a new striker.
Christopher Nkunku has also turned things around after struggling to stay fit last season. As a result, it will be interesting to see if they go after Delap who has impressed so far and is on their wishlist.
