Newcastle United poised to prioritise new contract for Alexander Isak

Newcastle United are keen to tie Alexander Isak to a new deal, ending speculation surrounding his future for good.

According to Give Me Sport, Newcastle United are eager to prioritise a new contract for Alexander Isak. The striker still has around four years left on his current deal at St. James’ Park, meaning the Magpies are not overly concerned about his immediate future amid interest from Premier League rivals.

Alexander Isak was a transformational signing for Newcastle United, who splashed a club-record sum to secure the Swede. His ability to score plenty of goals provides Eddie Howe with a superstar presence up front.

Despite many rumours surrounding Isak’s immediate future during the summer amid Newcastle’s reported issues with PSR obligations, the club did very well to keep him. The Magpies also managed to keep hold of Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon despite heavy interest in the pair.

Newcastle United are aware of the interest in Isak, with Arsenal and Chelsea still in the mix for the Swedish international. The two clubs are not expected to make approaches in January, but certainly next summer, especially if the striker’s situation stays the same, which points towards a potential renewal at St. James’ Park.

So far, Isak is not close to a renewal despite many reports suggesting that talks have taken place at some level between the two parties. Newcastle United are keen to prioritise a new deal for the Swedish striker and hike his £120,000-a-week wages to ward off interest from rivals once and for all.

Newcastle United will prioritise new deal for Isak

Newcastle United are not keen to lose Isak at any cost, but they are willing to hold on to him at least for a little longer. There is a feeling that the striker might end up departing at some stage of his career here. Hence, they are even reportedly willing to include a release clause if it helps the idea of signing a new deal.

The Magpies are not overly concerned about his immediate future at the club, as they have a long-term contract as insurance. However, the possibility Isak signing any new deal will depend on what sort of interest he generates from other clubs ahead of the next few months, as a concrete showing from others might stall the idea of renewing with the Magpies.
