West Ham United rival Chelsea in Jhon Duran chase

West Ham United and Chelsea are still interested in Jhon Duran ahead of the January transfer window, with the striker reportedly open to different ideas.

According to Ben Jacobs on Give Me Sport, Jhon Duran is a big target for West Ham United and Chelsea ahead of January. The London clubs were heavily linked with the Colombian striker in the summer transfer window, with Aston Villa refusing to sell him for a lower valuation. But things might open up ahead of the winter window.

West Ham, Chelsea still keen on Jhon Duran

Aston Villa were not particularly closed about keeping Jhon Duran this past summer, as they were open to a sale for the right price. Despite some big interest from Premier League clubs, the Colombian stayed at the club, with Unai Emery’s side even turning down late approaches from Chelsea and West Ham.

The two London clubs were the keenest suitors during the summer, with Duran’s agents pushing to sign for West Ham at one stage. The Hammers ended up signing Niclas Fullkrug, but that project has not worked out so far. So, there is a chance the German could be a quick departure from the London Stadium when the window re-opens.

West Ham are in the mix for Duran for January and could make a big attempt to lure the attacker. Julen Lopetegui can currently offer the 20-year-old in-form Aston Villa star a starting place in his setup. The player might be interested, considering how open he was during the summer. But the Hammers aren’t alone.

Chelsea are in contact over a move for Duran, as they are still in search of a new striker ahead of the January window. The Blues missed out on a big striker during the summer, and Duran could emerge as a big option if he was made available for sale in January. Journalist Ben Jacobs insists there’s legs to the interest from the London duo, as he suggested to keep a close eye on the 20-year-old in-form Aston Villa star’s development.

Duran’s situation at Aston Villa

Duran has had a sensational start to the season after a summer in which he seemed destined to leave. The Colombian has primarily been a bench option for Emery, but he has made a big impact off it, scoring five times as a substitute this season. However, should he not assume the role of a regular starter, the 20-year-old in-form star would be open to new opportunities.

Aston Villa are seemingly open to selling him, as they already have Ollie Watkins as their main striker, while Morgan Rogers assuming the secondary role in the starting lineup as of now. Barring some sensational displays, Duran is not about to change that order of things under Emery, meaning he could be allowed to leave which will see Villa cash in a big way.
