Brazilian club Palmeiras will look to complete an audacious move to re-sign Brazilian attacker Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal next year.
According to a report by Brazilian outlet Bolavip, Gabriel Jesus is the subject of interest from Palmeiras. The Brazilian giants are keen on re-signing the versatile Arsenal striker next year. Meanwhile, the North London club will demand around €40 million to part ways with the 27-year-old.
Gabriel Jesus and a topsy-turvy ride at Arsenal
Gabriel Jesus has blown hot and cold since joining Arsenal from Manchester City in July 2022. The South American attacker has been a dependable performer in build-up play while pressing efficiently in the advanced areas. However, his lack of productivity in front of the goal makes him a liability as a striker.
The 27-year-old has managed only 19 goals and 15 assists in 74 appearances thus far for Arsenal in the last two seasons. So, it is hardly surprising that Mikel Arteta has preferred Kai Havertz as the undisputed first-choice striker since the German international transitioned into a centre-forward in the 2023/24 campaign.
The Brazilian international has also struggled with fitness issues in the last 12 months, further reducing his importance in the first-team squad at Arsenal. However, Gabriel Jesus’s stock in his homeland remains high, with Palmeiras keen on re-signing him next year, preferably in the January transfer window.
Homecoming on the cards next year?
Palmeiras’s interest in Gabriel Jesus is understandable. The Brazilian giants want to sign a top-class striker before next summer’s FIFA Club World Cup. While the Arsenal attacker has not been prolific for the North London club, he has the quality to take the Brazilian Serie A by storm.
Brazilian clubs are also attempting to become more attractive destinations, with Corinthians recently signing Memphis Depay. Meanwhile, Arsenal will demand around €40 million to part ways with the versatile South American forward in the January transfer window. However, it is unclear if Palmeiras will be open to coughing up €40 million to re-sign Jesus from Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Arsenal should also sign a striker before parting ways with Jesus, although they do not have a shortage of options. Recent reports have linked the North London club with Dusan Vlahovic, Marcus Thuram, and Benjamin Sesko. So, a homecoming might be on the cards for Jesus if Palmeiras can cough up €40 million to secure his services.
