Chelsea outcast Ben Chilwell’s future remains unresolved as talks with three Turkish clubs failing to progress to any conclusive agreement.
While it has been a week since the transfer window in Europe’s top five leagues ended, the future of Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell has remained a big talking point. He is not a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, and the Blues have been looking for a way to get him off their books.
The English full-back’s services were offered to Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Istanbul Basaksehir. But, according to Yağız Sabuncuoğlu via Sports Digitale, Chilwell’s future remains uncertain as talks with the three Turkish clubs have not yielded any positive result.
Ben Chilwell joined the London club back in the summer of 2020 on the back of impressive performances for Leicester City. The 27-year-old defender was an integral part of their first team over the years. He was the Chelsea vice-captain last season under Mauricio Pochettino but could only feature in 21 matches because of his fitness issues.
While he still has three years left on his new deal which he signed last year, the former Foxes full-back has gone down the pecking order following the arrival of Enzo Maresca. The Italian manager does not consider him to be an ideal fit for his style of play. As a result, the Blues have been looking to offload him.
But, Chelsea have not been able to strike a deal with any of the interest parties. He was linked with a move to Brentford as well as Manchester United quite late in the transfer window. But, a deal could not be struck before last Friday’s transfer deadline.
Turkish clubs not keen on signing Chilwell
While the Englishman is in no rush to decide his future after failing to secure a move away on deadline day, the Blues have been trying to get him off their books. With the transfer window in Turkiye open until September 13, Chelsea have established contacts with multiple clubs from that part of the world.
Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Istanbul Basaksehir have all been offered the opportunity to sign the 27-year-old. However, none of the clubs appear interested in signing the English full-back, and they have yet to issue a formal response.
