Everton rejected chance to sign Axel Disasi, David Datro Fofana in swap deal to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Everton were reportedly offered the chance to sign Axel Disasi and David Datro Fofana from Chelsea in a swap deal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Chelsea wanted to sign the Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and they wanted to offer Axel Disasi to Everton. However, the Merseyside outfit were not keen on the proposal, and they decided to turn down the approach.

Disasi and Fofana have not been key players for Chelsea, and it is no surprise that the Blues have been happy to offload them. While Disasi has struggled for regular game time, Fofana was on loan at Union Berlin and Burnley last season.

Both players will be looking to get their careers back on track with regular football, and moving to Everton would have been ideal for them. However, Everton were not keen on losing a key player like Calvert-Lewin. He is undoubtedly the best striker at the club, and losing him late on in the window would have been a major blow amid his links with Chelsea.

Everton have made a poor star to the season, and they will look to bounce back strongly. They will need to hold on to their best players to secure safety in the Premier League. They have been fighting the relegation battle in the last two seasons, and it remains to be seen whether they can improve in the coming weeks.

Chelsea will look to get rid of the deadwood

Chelsea will look to get rid of their fringe players soon. Disasi (£80,000-a-week) and Fofana (£30,000-a-week) earn a combined total of £110,000-a-week. Their exits would have funded the wages of Calvert-Lewin, who is on a £100,000-a-week salary.

Getting rid of these players will help Chelsea free up their wage bill, and they will be able to invest in quality players as well. It will be interesting to see if the two players can secure a move away from Chelsea this summer. Even though the Premier League transfer window has closed, the window remains open in other leagues, and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can make the most of that and sell the two players.

As for Everton, they will need to improve their squad further, and it remains to be seen whether they can support Calvert-Lewin with a quality supporting cast in January. There is no doubt that Everton are a big club, and they should be pushing for a top-half finish. Everton will need the right additions to bounce back strongly.
