Manchester City are keeping tabs on Oihan Sancet as they could prepare to make a move for the Athletic Club star next summer.
According to Fichajes, Manchester City are keen on Oihan Sancet, and could make their move for the 24-year-old next summer. The Athletic Club star is contracted for eight more years at San Mames and would demand €60 million to sell their star midfielder to any suitor.
Manchester City chasing Oihan Sancet
Manchester City had an uncharacteristically quiet summer by their standards, bringing in only Savinho from sister club Troyes. The winger spent the previous campaign at Girona, where he was one of their star players. Beyond that, they decided against bringing in new faces despite some glaring needs to reinforce their attack.
Ilkay Gundogan also joined on a free transfer after he called time on his Barcelona career a year after leaving the Etihad on a free transfer. Those signings do make Man City stronger, but the club will count themselves lucky not to lose critical stars like Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva, with the duo linked with a move away from the club even before the summer window opened.
Those exits are still a possibility next summer, as De Bruyne is already into the final year of his deal and could leave for Saudi Arabia if he does not extend his stay at the Etihad. Even Silva could be on the move, despite having a few years on his current agreement, which could see Man City enter the market for a replacement.
Athletic Club’s Oihan Sancet has emerged as a target for Pep Guardiola for next summer, as the La Liga star has put in some key performances for the San Mames side. Last season was his fifth full campaign for the Basque side, and he might consider making the big move if Man City come through with a significant offer.
Athletic Bilbao wants €60 million
Sanchez has a contract until 2032, which does make Athletic Club relaxed about his future. However, they will reportedly ask for €60 million in return to sell the attacking midfielder, as a lot of other clubs are also expected to come into the equation. Arsenal and Tottenham were interested before and could emerge as suitors if the price is right.
Manchester City are in a fantastic position to sign players at whatever price, although €60 million will seem like fair value for a player who has been important for the San Mames side. Whether they are actually interested remains to be seen, but it could be another case of Guardiola identifying a top talent to shore up his squad for the future.
