Manchester United are willing to sign Raheem Sterling as long as the player is willing to accept a significant pay cut and a different role.
According to Give Me Sport, Manchester United are open to signing Raheem Sterling as long as the winger accepts their conditions. Those include being a squad player as well as taking a significant pay cut from his current £325,000-a-week wages, as Chelsea are desperate to offload him.
Manchester United’s Raheem Sterling conditions
Raheem Sterling may never play for Chelsea again after being frozen out of the first team, as the decision has garnered massive reactions from elsewhere. The big issue for the Blues is finding a suitor good enough to pay them a decent fee as well as convince Sterling to join them, as his massive £325,000-a-week wages could potentially hinder any move.
Recent reports pointed toward a possible swap deal with Manchester United with Jadon Sancho going the other way. Sancho was reportedly open to the idea as discussions were held to find a solution to what would have been a complex deal to conclude.
Juventus have agreed on a deal with Manchester United for Sancho; the prospect of the winger going there now seems complicated. However, the Red Devils are not dropping the idea of Raheem Sterling should he accept their conditions before coming to Old Trafford, which includes a massive pay cut for the £325,000-a-week Chelsea outcast.
Manchester United are only willing to pay £150,000-a-week wages to Sterling, who has three years left on his Chelsea deal as things stand. Secondly, the Red Devils are only insisting on a squad role for the winger, meaning he will be backup to Marcus Rashford, although there are chances of him being used on the right wing as well as in a false-nine role if required.
Will Sterling join Manchester United?
With the interest from Manchester United becoming clearer after they opened talks for Sterling, the player must accept those conditions before this deal could move any further. Then there is the issue of Chelsea’s demand for a transfer fee, as they would like to minimise their losses.
Sterling has garnered the reputation of a big player in England, and there are doubts whether he would take that much of a pay cut to make a move. Hence, that aspect would need a compromise from both sides. However, he might welcome the prospect of competing for a place for England colleague Rashford and has a significant chance of taking a starting role as the season progresses, either on the left side or elsewhere.
