Liverpool could make a late move to sign Inter Milan’s defensive mainstay Alessandro Bastoni before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Liverpool are interested in reinforcing their defence before the end of the transfer window. They are monitoring a few world-class centre-backs and Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni is one of the names on their wishlist. According to François Plateau, the Reds could stage a late approach to sign the Italian centre-back amidst uncertainty around Joe Gomez’s future.
Bastoni made a name for himself while coming up the ranks at Atalanta. His impressive rise resulted in a move to Inter Milan in the summer of 2017. He spent the next two seasons out on loan before getting a run in their first team.
He has gone from strength to strength in recent seasons and is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Serie A. While the 25-year-old still has four years left on his deal with the Italian giants, multiple top clubs are keen on prising him away from Inter.
Liverpool could launch a late bid to sign Bastoni
Liverpool are one of the clubs who are interested in the Italian defender. The Reds haven’t done much in the ongoing transfer window. But, with the deadline closing in, they have been linked with a few top stars and Alessandro Bastoni is one of them.
They have been tracking the Inter centre-back along with a few other targets as they prepare for a potential Joe Gomez departure. The 27-year-old English centre-back has been an integral part of the Reds’ first team. While he still has three years left in his deal at Anfield, the former Charlton graduate has been linked with a move away.
While the Merseyside club have no intention of forcing their longest-serving player to leave, they are not going to stand in his way either. It is up to the England international to decide his future and if he does end up leaving this week, the Reds could then make a late move to sign Bastoni.
Given how important he is to Inter Milan, they might not sanction his departure very late in the window unless they manage to find an ideal replacement in time.
