Manchester City contemplating Orri Oskarsson swoop

Manchester City are considering Icelandic forward Orri Oskarsson ahead of the transfer deadline day as their backup striker.

According to The Athletic, Manchester City are looking at Orri Oskarsson as a potential backup to Erling Haaland. The loss of Julian Alvarez and the injury to Oscar Bobb have made Pep Guardiola re-think about his forward option, as they only have the Norwegian in the out-and-out No.9 role ahead of the new season.

Manchester City are considering Orri Oskarsson swoop

Manchester City are considered the favourites to lift the Premier League for a fifth successive season, which would see them break their record last season with four. Heading into the new season, they are short in the centre-forward area, with Erling Haaland their only out-and-out striker.

The sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid and the severe injury sustained by exciting talent Oscar Bobb have rendered Pep Guardiola short on options up front. They had considered many names in the mix, with Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi a target, But those links have not moved forward.

Moves for high-profile players like Rodrygo Goes have been ruled out, meaning there are signs Manchester City will not spend big. However, they have considered an approach for Icelandic striker Orri Oskarsson from FC Copenhagen, with the forward in imperious form since their new season began in Denmark.

The 19-year-old Nordic forward is an exciting talent chased by many other clubs, including FC Porto, although Manchester City will likely make an offer. He will cost €20 million in this market, with Copenhagen likely to accept bids in that region. With a few days left in the window, there is still a chance that Guardiola might green-light such a move, although, as things stand, the club are content with current options.

Manchester City still have pending business

Manchester City do not need many improvements through the transfer window, although there are a few more deals they could do. For instance, the Oskarsson move would make sense to add a cover option for Haaland, although they could also engage in sales, with Matheus Nunes a player they could sell.

The Premier League champions recently re-signed Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona, and that might have rendered Nunes as unwanted to Guardiola’s plans. However, the chances of them signing a new forward as slim at this moment, although their stance could change in the following days.
