According to a report from HITC, Chelsea are close to securing the services of another South American sensation. The Blues have agreed on a three-year deal with Gabriel Mec and are trying to agree on terms with Gremio amidst interest from rivals Aston Villa and Manchester United.
At just 16, he is a part of Gremio’s Under20 team. He has featured in six matches for them and even has a goal to his name. His impressive rise is what has caught the attention of quite a few top clubs. Despite his young age, he has shown incredible potential and clubs from Europe want to sign him for the long run.
Since their takeover, Chelsea have been focused on signing young players with huge potential. Their new project revolves around having the best young talent and they have been hugely active in South America. They have signed a host of players from that region over the last 12 months and Mec could be their latest signing.
The Blues have already made seven signings this summer and are now pushing for the eighth signing of this window. Even if all parties agree to a transfer, Mec won’t be making the move to Stamford Bridge until he turns 18 in 2026.
Chelsea closing in on Gabriel Mec’s services
The London club have been linked with the teenager for some time now and finally, talks have progressed in the right direction. They have managed to convince the youngster that a move to Chelsea is best for his future despite interest from Aston Villa and United.
Villa have done wonders under Unai Emery and they have been quite ambitious in the transfer market. They seem to be building a team for the long run and Mec could be a great signing for them.
Meanwhile, United have changed their transfer philosophy under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, they want to bring in the best young talent and Mec is surely considered to be one of them. Despite interest from two top English clubs, the Blues have finalised an initial three-year deal with the player along with another two-year option.
While Chelsea have the green light from Mec, they are yet to agree on a deal with Gremio who want in excess of £20 million for the Brazilian wonderkid. The Blues are not ready to meet their demands. However, both parties remain confident that a deal for the teenager will be struck in the near future.
