Chelsea closing in on sealing agreement to sign Gabriel Mec

Chelsea are close to finding an agreement with Gremio for their 2008-born Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Mec, with the deal expected to conclude imminently.

Fabrizio Romano insists that Chelsea are very close to finding an agreement with Gremio for Gabriel Mec. The teenager’s immediate future will remain with his current club, as the Blues are eager to secure the 2008-born Brazilian wonderkid early before the market for such talents explodes in the next few years.

Chelsea are closing in on Gabriel Mec

Chelsea have continued on their quest to identify and sign some of the emerging young talents from across the world. This summer, they have stayed on their quest to find these talents and have stuck to their regular hunting grounds in South America.

After deals for Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors and Estevao Willian from Palmeiras, Chelsea are now closing in on the signing of Gremio teenager Gabriel Mec. Many other clubs have looked at the young attacker, but Chelsea have remained optimistic about signing the 2008-born Brazilian wonderkid.

Chelsea had opened direct talks with Gremio to reach an agreement a few days prior and are now closing in on concluding the transfer. While they might be inches away, the two clubs are reportedly sorting out details about the move, although Gabriel Mec will only be allowed to join the English giants two years later, when he turns 18, as per Brazilian rules.

Gremio reportedly want €20 million or so, something the two clubs are expected to discuss extensively before reaching a final agreement. Whether such a vast outlay is necessary remains the question, especially for a player who has only shown his talent in flashes. However, Chelsea and their owners will view this as a wise investment for the future, something very similar to Real Madrid’s move for Endrick.

Chelsea’s transfer plans

They have also spent big on another teenager, Genk goalkeeper Mike Penders, who will stay with his current side in Belgium for another season. Chelsea have also finalised a move for goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen and will now focus on strengthening their attack.

There is a winger in sight, especially if Noni Madueke leaves for Newcastle United amid growing interest from the Magpies. Chelsea’s priority signing will be a striker, with talk of a move for Victor Osimhen ongoing. Romelu Lukaku will be expected to join Napoli either as part of that deal or in a separate agreement.
