Jacob Wright on the verge of completing Peterborough United loan move

Manchester City have reportedly agreed to a loan deal with Peterborough United to send teenage midfielder Jacob Wright to League One.

According to Football Insider, Manchester City could send exciting youngster Jacob Wright on loan to League One side Peterborough United for the upcoming season. The 18-year-old whizkid is considered a top prospect by those in charge of the Manchester City academy, as they are eager to further his development with a loan.

Jacob Wright set for Peterborough United loan

The Manchester City youth system works like a machine, with the club emphasising the development of their players and then helping them make bright decisions for their own future. The club have consistently produced top talents who continue to grace many Premier League and Championship sides, as the process might continue.

Last summer alone, they made a massive profit of more than £70 million following sales of their academy or homegrown talents, including Cole Palmer. James Trafford was another big sale to Burnley. At the same time, Carlos Borges went to Ajax, and Shea Charles went to Southampton, the other outgoings from their academy, making them a handsome profit.

This summer, they have already made a big sale with Liam Delap’s transfer to Ipswich Town, and they have many more exciting youngsters coming through the ranks. For instance, defensive midfielder Jacob Wright is one of the key prospects coming through their academy, and he even made the matchday squad in the Premier League last season while featuring twice for the senior team, once in the Champions League and another time in the FA Cup.

The 18-year-old whizkid is now set for a loan spell to get regular senior football, as Manchester City have agreed a temporary deal with Peterborough United. Playing in League One would seem like the right step the club has taken to aid the youngster’s development, as he could then return with big experience to take the next move.

Manchester City’s youth plans

The loan move for Wright shows the club is willing to refresh their youth team ranks and will probably get in a replacement of sorts. Either way, they have upped their youth transfer game in a big way this summer, with some deals in the pipeline, such as the one for West Ham United youngster Xavier Parker.

Manchester City are also close to landing Christian McFarlane from New York City FC. There might be a few more outgoings as some of their exciting talents, such as Oscar Bobb, are attracting massive interest.

The machinery behind the scenes will continue to work like clockwork, as the Wright move shows they are keen to develop their talents in the right way rather than thinking about profits straight away.
