Romelu Lukaku rebuffs Aston Villa approach, wants Napoli move

Aston Villa have suffered a major blow in their pursuit of Chelsea ace Romelu Lukaku as he wants to join Napoli this summer.

According to a report from Calcio Napoli 24, Aston Villa are keen on bolstering their attack ahead of next season. They want to bring in a world-class forward before the end of the transfer window, and Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku is one of their targets. While Aston Villa did try to make a move for his signature, they have suffered a major setback as he is keen on reuniting with Antonio Conte.

Chelsea forked out a massive fee to re-sign Lukaku from Inter Milan back in 2021. Unfortunately, the big money move did not go according to plan and he has spent a significant amount of time out on loan. Last season, the Belgian attacker had an impressive loan spell at AS Roma as he finished with 21 goals and four assists.

While Romelu Lukaku is back at Stamford Bridge, he is not a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans moving ahead. With his contract running out in two years, Chelsea are looking to cut their losses by offloading him. While quite a few clubs have been linked with the 31-year-old, nothing concrete has happened so far.

Aston Villa are keen on Lukaku who wants Napoli

Aston Villa recently tried to make a move for his services. But things have not gone according to plan for them. While Unai Emery’s team already have a star striker in Ollie Watkins, they want someone who can support him. With the club all set to compete in the UEFA Champions League, they are seeking more firepower.

People at the club feel the Belgian international could be a sensational signing for them. While things might not have worked out for Lukaku at Chelsea, he surely has been doing great while on loan away from Stamford Bridge.

Aston Villa have suffered a blow in their pursuit as the player has his heart set on a move to Napoli. Lukaku wants to be reunited with Antonio Conte. The two had a lot of success together at Inter Milan back in the day. While Villa did try to hijack the deal by directly dealing with Chelsea, the Belgian international has made it clear that he has no intentions of joining them.

Lukaku will continue to wait for Napoli, who are expected to part ways with star striker Victor Osimhen amid his links with Arsenal and other clubs before the end of the window. Once the Nigerian international leaves, the Partenopei are expected to push for the Belgian striker. Meanwhile, the Blues are looking to put pressure on the Serie A outfit as they want the 31-year-old’s future to be sorted as soon as possible.
