Aston Villa considering loan-to-buy deal to re-sign Jack Grealish

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are considering a surprise loan-to-buy deal to re-sign their academy graduate Jack Grealish from Manchester City.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Aston Villa could make a surprise move to re-sign Manchester City winger Jack Grealish. They are looking to further bolster their squad before the start of the new season and are currently considering making a loan-to-buy offer for their academy graduate.

Grealish had a lot of success coming up the ranks at Aston Villa. He was promoted to their first team in 2013 following which he had an impressive loan spell at Notts County. The Englishman slowly established himself at Aston Villa and went on to be their skipper before parting ways in the summer of 2021.

Manchester City broke the bank and the British transfer record to sign the English international, and he has played an important part in all the success they have had in recent seasons. While he has been a key player for Pep Guardiola’s team, Grealish slowly faded away from prominence last season.

The Englishman was the preferred choice in the Champions League. But the 28-year-old found his Premier League opportunities to be quite limited. He had to battle with Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku for a place in the starting XI. Grealish only made 20 league appearances and was on the pitch for just over 1,000 minutes.

Lack of minutes and poor form resulted in him getting dropped from the England squad ahead of UEFA Euro 2024. While he still has three years left on his deal at Manchester City, the recent events have made his future quite complicated.

Jack Grealish to return to Aston Villa?

Aston Villa are one of the clubs who have been keeping a close eye on his situation at Manchester City. Unai Emery’s team are gearing up for an important season where they will be competing in the UEFA Champions League. They are looking to add more quality to be competitive in all competitions.

In recent days, they have been linked with star forwards in an attempt to further bolster their attack. While Joao Felix has been linked with a move to Aston Villa, the English club are also considering the possibility of bringing Grealish back to the club.

They are keen on re-signing him on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy. Grealish could add a lot more quality to the Villa left flank. But he is not versatile and given the number wingers Emery already has at his disposal, things do not really look promising.

However, it is a reunion that the English international could surely consider as it will allow him an opportunity to return to prominence and make his way back into the England team.
