Chelsea are in touch with the agent of Federico Chiesa about a move this summer, with a host of other clubs also chasing the ‘bargain’ winger.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are positioning themselves as front-runners for the signing of Federico Chiesa, having established contact with his agent. The Blues are open to bringing in a winger and potentially a new striker, with the Juventus star reportedly set to cost around £20 million.
Chelsea made a move to ‘bargain’ Federico Chiesa
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is still looking for a new winger and a striker before the window shuts, and now they have accelerated the pursuit of a key target. Chelsea had eyes for Federico Chiesa when it became clear that the winger would be departing Juventus, for the Turin side do not want to lose him for noting next summer.
Chelsea have established contact with Chiesa’s agent, with the report suggesting they view him as a ‘bargain’ signing for the £20 million or so quoted to get him. A player of the Juventus man’s quality at that price seems like a great deal for clubs, with Maresca now looking at the Italian as competition to his existing wingers.
Federico Chiesa reportedly wants £130,000-a-week wages, and his demands before leaving Juventus have been clear. Club-to-club talks are still pending, although they might begin imminently once Chelsea has done the major work on the player’s side and his agent.
Chelsea will face competition for the winger from London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, meaning this chase will not be easy. The Blues will look at this as an opportunity to bring an experienced attacker, which may break their age structure.
Tottenham and Arsenal are chasing Chiesa
Mikel Arteta wants a new wide attacker in his ranks in this window and has held an interest in Federico Chiesa. The winger has a ‘bargain’ price tag, which has attracted the Gunners. Arsenal have kept tabs on Nico Williams and Raphinha. But tying up deals for both the wingers seems difficult at this stage, something they will find easier with the £20 million-rated Juventus man.
Tottenham were considered front-runners for Chiesa and are still in the hunt for the winger. Ange Postecoglou wants a wide attacker to shore up his frontline, which could make the race for the Juventus man all the more interesting, with Spurs particularly confident of signing him.
