Newcastle United have reportedly submitted a new enquiry for 22-year-old German international Malick Thiaw, valued €40 million by AC Milan.
According to a report by Repubblica, as relayed by Milan News, Malick Thiaw is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are pushing hard to sign the German international and have submitted a new enquiry to sign him. Meanwhile, AC Milan will demand around €40 million to part ways with the young centre-back in the summer transfer window.
The Malick Thiaw tale
Malick Thiaw has made gradual progress since joining AC Milan from FC Schalke 04 in August 2022. The youngster was one of the most highly-rated young defensive prospects in the world when he arrived at San Siro two years ago but has blown hot and cold while simultaneously growing in stature.
The 22-year-old has turned out over 50 times thus far for AC Milan while chipping in with one assist. However, Thiaw faces an uncertain future at San Siro in this summer’s transfer window, with several well-known clubs across Europe pushing for his signature. Newcastle United might be his next destination.
Premier League beckoning?
Newcastle United have already signed one centre-back in the summer transfer window, with Lloyd Kelly arriving at St. James’ Park in a Bosman move after his contract with Bournemouth ran out. However, the Magpies remain in the market for a centre-back heading into the final month of the window.
Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are long-term absentees for Newcastle United, with the two centre-backs unlikely to feature for the Tyneside outfit until 2025. So, Malick Thiaw has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United, with the Magpies intensifying their efforts to sign him.
Recent reports have revealed that the Magpies have contacted Malick Thiaw’s entourage over a summer move. The latest update has suggested that Newcastle United have enquired about the German international, with AC Milan demanding around €40 million to part ways with him in the summer transfer window.
A lot still needs to happen before Thiaw leaves AC Milan and joins Newcastle United in the summer transfer window. It will also be interesting to see if the Magpies are ready to cough up €40 million to secure the 22-year-old defender’s services.
