Jaden Philogene has arrived back in England for his Aston Villa medical, as Unai Emery’s side have secured his signing from Hull City.
According to Sports Digitale, Aston Villa have won the race to sign Jaden Philogene from Hull City, with the 22-year-old winger set for his medical. The attacker has left Hull City’s training camp in Instanbul and flown back to England to complete the formalities ahead of signing for Unai Emery’s side.
Jaden Philogene is set to join Aston Villa
Jaden Philogene has been one of the fiercest transfer stories of this window right from the opening of the market. Barcelona were frontrunners for a long time, but they soon ended their interest as Hull City could not agree a loan-to-buy deal with the Catalans for the exciting 22-year-old winger.
Ever since, a host of English sides have made their presence felt in the race for the Philogene, with Everton reportedly making a £16 million bid to sign the 22-year-old winger. There was further interest from the likes of Tottenham and Ipswich Town, although it appears Aston Villa have stolen the march.
Villa were frontrunners in the last phase of this transfer saga, and Unai Emery was reportedly pushing to re-sign the former player. According to the information, the deal has been agreed upon, and the player has flown out of Hull City’s training camp in Istanbul back to England for his medical examination.
He will be an exciting addition to Villa, who are gearing up for a season in the Champions League. This might have been a major factor for Philogene before choosing his next destination. Whether he has come into the setup as a replacement for an additional attacker remains to be seen, with some Saudi Arabian sides recently linked with Moussa Diaby.
Aston Villa to pay £13 million to re-sign Philogene
Aston Villa sold Philogene to Hull City in a deal of around £4 million, although they did insert a 30% sell-on clause. The conditions have come in handy for the club in their effort to re-sign the 22-year-old winger. As per Fabrizio Romano, Villa also had a clause to match a bid Hull City might have received and accepted.
Villa seemingly matched the bid and used the sell-on clause for a discount, as they will now pay £13 million for the 22-year-old winger. He can be a solid addition to Emery, who will want attacking depth in his squad, as Philogene seems like a big talent for a decent price in this market.
