Aston Villa recently submitted an enquiry to sign 28-year-old Cameroonian midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa from Serie A club Napoli in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Il Mattino, as relayed by Calcio Napoli 24, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans have been scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. They approached Napoli over a move for the 28-year-old midfielder, but the Serie A giants have turned them down.
The Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa story
Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa has found a stable footing in his career since joining Napoli from Fulham. The Cameroonian international had already represented high-profile clubs like Marseille and Villarreal before enduring a frustrating debut season at Fulham. The Partenopei came calling in August 2021, and he has not looked back since then.
Napoli initially signed Zambo Anguissa on a season-long loan deal in 2021 before completing a permanent transfer in July 2022. The 28-year-old, who has turned out over 100 times thus far for Napoli, was instrumental in the Partenopei winning the Serie A title after over three decades when they lifted the Scudetto in the 2022/23 season.
While the Serie A giants were dreadful in the defence of their crown in the 2023/24 campaign, Zambo Anguissa was a rare bright spot for them. So, it is hardly surprising that the former Fulham midfielder’s stock in the market is high, with Aston Villa among his prospective suitors in the summer transfer window.
Aston Villa interested in Zambo Anguissa
Aston Villa’s interest in Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa is understandable. The Villans have been scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window after parting ways with Douglas Luiz, who has joined Juventus. So, several candidates, including Gabri Veiga, have emerged on Aston Villa’s radar.
Zambo Anguissa is also a viable target for Aston Villa, with the West Midlands club approaching Napoli to ask about the Cameroonian international. However, the Serie A giants have knocked back the enquiry from Aston Villa as they do not want to part ways with their star midfielder in the summer transfer window.
So, Aston Villa must look elsewhere to bolster the midfield department in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see who reinforces their options in the middle of the park in the coming weeks.
