Manchester United are reportedly contemplating signing 26-year-old Slovakian defender David Hancko from Eredivisie club Feyenoord.
According to a report by The Athletic, David Hancko is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are mulling over a move to sign the 26-year-old defender from Eredivisie club Feyenoord in the summer transfer window after his heroics at UEFA Euro 2024.
Who is David Hancko?
David Hancko has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Eredivisie since joining Feyenoord from Sparta Praha in August 2022. The Slovak made an immediate impact at De Kuip, becoming a mainstay at the back and helping Feyenoord win the Eredivisie title in the 2022/23 season.
While Feyenoord failed to defend the Eredivisie title last season, Hancko continued making his mark at the heart of the defence. The 26-year-old has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for the Dutch giants while chipping in with 11 goals and eight assists. Meanwhile, the player was excellent for his national side at UEFA Euro 2024.
David Hancko’s exploits for Slovakia and Feyenoord have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Many Premier League clubs, in particular, are keen on signing the Slovakian international in the summer transfer window, with Manchester United joining the chase.
Manchester United move on the horizon?
Manchester United’s interest in David Hancko is understandable. The Red Devils have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window after losing Raphael Varane as a free agent. So, several centre-backs have emerged on Manchester United’s radar, with the club recently failing with a bid to sign Jarrad Branthwaite.
Meanwhile, LOSC Lille accepted a bid from Manchester United for Leny Yoro this week. In addition, Matthijs de Ligt is a target for the Premier League heavyweights. So, the Red Devils are keeping their options open, with Hancko emerging as a viable target due to his productivity and defensive style.
