Sevilla make approach for Jakub Kiwior

Struggling La Liga giants Sevilla have reportedly enquired about signing 24-year-old Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, Jakub Kiwior is the subject of interest from Sevilla. The struggling La Liga giants are already on the verge of signing one Arsenal player, with Albert Sambi Lokonga closing in on joining on a season-long loan deal. They now want another Arsenal player, submitting an enquiry for the 24-year-old versatile defender.

The Jakub Kiwior story

Jakub Kiwior has been a backup player for Arsenal since arriving from Spezia in January 2023. A native of Tychy, the Pole spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the youth division at his hometown club, Tychy. He then spent a few more years at an academy after Anderlecht signed him in July 2016.

However, the 24-year-old versatile defender, who can play as a centre-back and a left-back, rose in prominence during his spell with Spezia, with his exploits for the Italian club helping him become a regular for Poland. Arsenal secured Jakub Kiwior’s signature 18 months ago, and he has been a dependable backup player for the North London club.

The Polish international has turned out 38 times thus far for Arsenal, chipping in with two goals and three assists. While Kiwior secured regular game time in the second half of the 2023/24 season, his stature will drop in the upcoming campaign, considering Riccardo Calafiori is on the verge of joining Arsenal.

La Liga move on the horizon?

So, Jakub Kiwior should leave Arsenal and join a club where he can secure regular game time. That brings Sevilla into the equation, with the struggling La Liga giants approaching the North London club to enquire about the versatile 24-year-old defender.

Sevilla and Arsenal share a healthy working relationship, with Los Nervionenses closing in on signing Albert Sambi Lokonga on a season-long loan deal. They have taken advantage of those relations to submit an enquiry for Kiwior, although an agreement will unlikely see the light of day.

Arsenal would prefer to sell Kiwior instead of loaning him. With several Serie A clubs showing interest in the Polish international, that might materialise, meaning Sevilla will unlikely land a second Arsenal player in the summer transfer window.
