Manchester United are reportedly internally discussing a summer move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who will cost around £30 million.
According to a report by The Athletic, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the subject of interest from Manchester United. While the Red Devils are closing in on signing Joshua Zirkzee, they are internally discussing potentially landing another striker. The Everton striker, who will cost around £30 million, has thus emerged as a target for the Premier League heavyweights.
The Dominic Calvert-Lewin story
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Everton from Sheffield United in August 2016. A native of Sheffield, the Englishman graduated from the youth division at Sheffield United before making a dozen appearances for the South Yorkshire outfit.
The 27-year-old has risen in prominence during his spell with Everton. However, fitness issues have plagued Calvert-Lewin in the last few seasons, severely restricting his game time. The player has a decent record of 68 goals and 18 assists in nearly 250 outings thus far for the Merseyside outfit.
However, Calvert-Lewin faces an uncertain future at Everton after entering the final year of his contract. A new deal might not be on the cards, as the English striker wants to embark on a new adventure after a solid end to the 2023/24 season. Such a situation has piqued the attention of a few Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United. However, Manchester United might soon arrive at the scene.
Manchester United beckons?
Manchester United’s interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin is understandable. The Red Devils have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window after losing Anthony Martial as a free agent. Joshua Zirkzee has thus emerged as Manchester United’s top target, with the Dutchman closing in on moving to Old Trafford.
However, Manchester United are contemplating signing another striker to add to Erik ten Hag’s options. Ivan Toney and Calvert-Lewin have thus emerged as the options for the Premier League heavyweights, with internal discussions set to decide whether they become top targets for the Red Devils. Meanwhile, Everton will demand around £30 million to part ways with the English striker.
With Calvert-Lewin showing promising signs in the final weeks of the 2023/24 season, he is a gamble worth taking for Manchester United. However, coughing up £30 million on the 27-year-old Englishman might not be worth it, considering he is in the final year of his contract with Everton.
