Manchester United will face stiff competition from Barcelona and Manchester City in their pursuit of the services of Manuel Ugarte.
Manuel Ugarte might not have had the best of seasons with Paris Saint-Germain but he is having an exceptional Copa America campaign with Uruguay national team. His performances haven’t gone unnoticed and top clubs from across Europe are interested in the South American star. According to a report from Le10Sport, Manchester United, Manchester City and Barcelona are all keen on signing the PSG midfielder.
After making a name for himself at Sporting CP, Ugarte joined the French giants last summer. While he did have a decent start to life at PSG, things didn’t really go according to plan in the second half of the campaign. The 23-year-old did feature in a total of 37 matches but he wasn’t really involved in their important Champions League fixtures.
Ugarte might not have had an impressive debut campaign but it seems he has managed to get back to his best in the ongoing Copa America. He has been an integral part of Marcelo Bielsa’s team and they are just steps away from the silverware having made it to the semi-finals.
Multiple top clubs keen on signing Ugarte
He was one of the standout performers in their quarter-final win over Brazil and his work hasn’t gone unnoticed. Manchester United are one of the clubs linked with the former Sporting midfielder. With Casemiro expected to be on the move, they are looking for a younger replacement and Ugarte could be a great acquisition for them.
While the Red Devils seem keen on his signature, they will face competition from Barcelona as well as Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s team already have enough quality in their squad but they are always on the lookout for more. The Uruguayan international could help them in the long run and he could even provide cover for Rodri with Kalvin Phillips expected to be on the move.
Meanwhile, the Catalan giants are desperately looking for a new defensive midfielder as they haven’t been able to cope with the absence of Sergio Busquets who left last summer. They want a long-term replacement and Ugarte seems to fit the bill.
While there is no shortage of interest in the 23-year-old, his future is actually in the hands of PSG manager Luis Enrique. The Spanish manager must decide whether wants Ugarte in his ranks at all costs or if is he willing to part ways with him if there is a good offer on the table.
