Arsenal are considering a move for Dan Bentley of Wolves. The 30-year-old Englishman was once a member of the North London side’s academy.
According to The Sun, Arsenal are targeting a move for Dan Bentley to join their goalkeeping ranks this summer. The Wolves shot-stopper may give his green light to the approach even if he is to be Mikel Arteta’s third-choice keeper behind Aaron Ramsdale.
Dan Bentley is on Arsenal’s radar
Arsenal are in the market to improve their goalkeeping options. That is not particularly their priority, but they will likely sign a third-choice stopper. Karl Hein currently occupies the position behind current second choice Aaron Ramsdale, but the Estonian’s immediate future is in doubt as he enters the final year of his deal.
Arsenal are looking for a homegrown keeper in this market to comply with the Premier League’s rules. However, the club may still sell some of their current homegrown stars, such as Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe, and Eddie Nketiah, which could be a setback in terms of complying with the rules.
They have enquired about Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Dan Bentley, with the 30-year-old likely to say yes to a return to Arsenal, a club he left 15 years ago as an Under-18 player. While the Englishman has played over 430 career games, he has only made seven appearances in the Premier League, all coming since his January 2023 move to Wolves.
The other Arsenal connection is that he used to play for Brentford, and current first-choice David Raya replaced Bentley at the club back in 2019. Adding the 30-year-old Englishman to Arteta’s squad will be seen as a progressive move, as the keeper can bring his experience whenever needed, even if it is as a third-choice stopper, which would ideally see him replace Hein.
Is Aaron Ramsdale to stay at Arsenal?
Arsenal have stayed alert in the window for a replacement for Ramsdale, should the Englishman leave. The Gunners want a fee of more than £30 million in this market to sell the England international, with the report stating they can demand as much as £50 million, which will make it hard for suitors to sign him.
The North Londoners have also monitored Sunderlands’s Anthony Patterson, although the chances of this pursuit depend on Ramsdale’s departure, which at this point seems unlikely. Hence, the idea of Dan Bentley would make sense, as he would boost their homegrown quota and bring massive experience, which would be ideal for a third-choice stopper.
