According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are willing to sell Miguel Almiron for £25-30 million this summer. Eddie Howe admires the player, but he would rather use the money to reinvest and improve the squad ahead of the new season.
Newcastle United to sell Miguel Almiron
Newcastle United are in a phase where they are looking for ways to improve their squad without spending massive amounts of money. PSR regulations prevent them from spending beyond their means, meaning they cannot touch the money their owners have without breaching financial regulations.
Hence, they have recently sold some of their promising homegrown stars to comply with PSR obligations. Elliot Anderson has joined Nottingham Forest in a £35 million deal, which has allowed them to evade sanctions from PSR ahead of the new season.
Brighton & Hove Albion also won the race for Yankuba Minteh, another one of Newcastle’s exciting talents, who was sold for more than £30 million. Those sales prevented the Magpies from selling some of their prized assets, like Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, although they are now considering further sales of their other players.
On top of the list is Miguel Almiron, for whom they had wanted £30 million or so. However, Newcastle United are prepared to offload the Paraguayan for a fee of £25-30 million in the current market, as the winger still has two years left on his current deal.
Are Saudi Clubs still keen on Almiron?
Eddie Howe wants to reinvest money from any sales in the squad, and while he admires Almiron for his hardworking style, the Newcastle United manager is open to letting him leave to improve his squad. Back in January, negotiations with Saudi Arabian clubs broke down because they did not match Newcastle’s asking price. But the Middle Eastern clubs retain an interest in the Paraguayan international.
Those clubs are certainly in a strong position to pay the asking rate, as Almiron could be a valuable acquisition for many of the clubs in the Saudi Pro League. Hence, there is a big chance of the Paraguayan leaving for the Middle East this summer, with Newcastle United likely to use the money on new signings.
