Arsenal, Chelsea expected to table bid to sign Riccardo Calafiori

Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing 22-year-old Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, a target for Liverpool.

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal and Chelsea are now expected to submit an offer for Riccardo Calafiori. The 22-year-old has been linked with Liverpool as well, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.

Calafiori is regarded as one of the finest young defenders in world football, and he has the attributes to develop into a world-class player. Arsenal and Chelsea could certainly use a player of his quality, and it is hardly surprising that the Bologna defender has emerged as a target for them.

Arsenal need a quality partner for William Saliba, and signing the 22-year-old Italian international certainly makes sense. He is versatile enough to operate as a left-back as well, meaning the interest is understandable.

Meanwhile, Chelsea need to bring in defensive reinforcements as well. The Blues looked vulnerable at the back last season, and it is an area that is in need of reinforcements. In addition, Thiago Silva left the club upon the expiry of his contract, and he will need to be replaced adequately.

Calafiori could be tempted to join Chelsea or Arsenal

Both Arsenal and Chelsea would be exciting destinations for the player, and it remains to be seen where he ends up. He will look to compete at the highest level and Arsenal could be a more attractive destination for the player given the fact that they will be able to offer him Champions League football.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are looking for a quality replacement for Joel Matip, and they are keen on signing the Italian international this summer. Calafiori has proven himself in Serie A, and he has done quite well with his country in the European Championships as well. He will look to take the next step in his development, and joining a big club would be ideal for him.

Arsenal and Chelsea are among the biggest clubs in the world, and the opportunity to join them will be difficult to turn down for most players. Regular football in England could accelerate his development and help him fulfil his world class potential as well.
