Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have opened talks to acquire the services of LOSC Lille attacking sensation Jonathan David.
Chelsea are keen on reinforcing their attack ahead of next season, they want to bring in a top striker to lead the line and are interested in the services of Jonathan David. According to David Ornstein, the Blues have already taken a major step in their pursuit as they have opened talks for the Canadian international.
David has gone from strength to strength since joining LOSC Lille in the summer of 2020 from KAA Gent. The 24-year-old striker has been a consistent performer for the French club and his work hasn’t gone unnoticed as multiple top clubs are interested in him.
In the 2023/24 season, the former Gent ace was involved in 47 games and he ended up contributing towards 35 goals. The Candian international found the back of the net on 26 occasions. While David is currently focused on doing his best in Copa America, Chelsea are working hard to secure his signature.
Chelsea want to bring David to London
The Blues didn’t have the best of seasons last time out and they are looking to make the necessary changes to ensure they can bounce back. Scoring goals was one of the problems for them last season.
They were over-dependent on Cole Palmer and now want to ensure they have a top-quality number nine leading their attack next season to support the former Manchester City in the final third.
While the London club have multiple options for the position, David is quite high on their wishlist. They have already opened talks to sign him. With his contract at Lille running out in 2025, Chelsea believe he could be available for a reasonable fee.
The Blues have held talks with his representatives to discuss a potential summer move. While Maresca’s team are yet to knock on the French club’s door, both clubs have good relations which could come to help their cause. But, with the player currently representing Canada at the Copa America, a move is unlikely to happen until the end of the continental tournament.
