Nacho closing in on joining Al-Qadsiah

Long-serving Real Madrid utility man Nacho is reportedly on the verge of joining Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah in a Bosman move this summer.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Nacho will officially leave Real Madrid as a free agent on July 1. The veteran utility man’s next destination will be Saudi Arabia, with Al-Qadsiah on the verge of completing a Bosman move when the summer transfer window opens. The Real Madrid captain has completed his medical and will sign a two-year contract.

Nacho and his Real Madrid ride

Nacho has been the quintessential squad player for Real Madrid for nearly the last decade and a half. The Spaniard spent his formative years in Los Blancos’ fabled La Fabrica division before rapidly progressing through the ranks. He made his first-team debut in April 2011.

The 34-year-old has never been the undisputed first-choice centre-back for Real Madrid but has still managed over 350 appearances due to his versatility, chipping in with 16 goals and 10 assists. Meanwhile, the veteran utility man served Real Madrid as the club captain in the 2023/24 season.

The Spanish international was a regular for Real Madrid in the 2023/24 season. Eder Militao and David Alaba spent most of the campaign on the sidelines due to long-term injuries. However, Nacho’s long association with Real Madrid will end in the summer transfer window, as he will leave the club as a free agent.

Where next?

The Spanish defender’s next destination will be Saudi Arabia, although it is not the previously thought of Al-Nassr. Instead, Nacho will join Al-Qadsiah, the Aramco-owned club in the Saudi Pro League, in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

The Real Madrid captain initially wanted to move to MLS, but a few obstacles prevented the move from going through. Meanwhile, Nacho’s Bosman transfer to the Saudi Pro League should be completed soon, with the 34-year-old Spaniard passing his medical tests.

The veteran Spanish utility man will sign a two-year contract at Al-Qadsiah before completing a free transfer in the summer transfer window. As for Real Madrid, they must appoint a new club captain for a fourth successive season after Nacho’s departure.
