Leny Yoro open to Manchester United move amid Liverpool links

Leny Yoro is reportedly open to joining Manchester United in the summer transfer window, which comes as a blow for Liverpool’s prospects.

According to a report by Daily Star, as relayed by Paisley Gates, Leny Yoro is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The LOSC Lille defender is also a target for Manchester United, and he is ready to join the Red Devils in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 club will demand around £59 million to sell the highly-rated French defender.

Leny Yoro and his rapid rise to stardom

Leny Yoro has seen his stock skyrocket since breaking into the first-team squad at LOSC Lille. The Frenchman has thus continued the recent trend of his country producing world-class talent by the truckload every year. He made his senior bow for Les Dogues as a 16-year-old two years ago and has gone from strength to strength since then.

Yoro has raised eyebrows by becoming a mainstay at the back for LOSC Lille despite being in his teens. The 18-year-old amassed more than 3,500 minutes of game time across 44 appearances in all competitions in the 2023/24 season, chipping in with three goals.

Meanwhile, Leny Yoro’s progress at Stade Pierre-Mauroy has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Widespread reports have claimed that a move to Real Madrid might be on the cards. However, Liverpool and Manchester United are vying to take the French defensive sensation to the Premier League.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Liverpool’s interest in Leny Yoro is understandable. The Reds are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window after losing Joel Matip as a free agent. In addition, Ibrahima Konate blew hot and cold in the 2023/24 season. So, the Lille defender is a viable target for the Merseyside club. However, the teenage prospect is ready to join Manchester United instead.

As for Manchester United, they are in a similar boat after losing Raphael Varane as a free agent. In addition, Harry Maguire is on the wrong side of 30, while Victor Lindelof faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford. So, it behoves Manchester United to invest in a defender, with Yoro being an option worth considering. Meanwhile, Lille will demand £59 million to sell the Frenchman.

While £59 million is a sizeable figure, the 18-year-old French defensive sensation has time on his hand and the potential to make the outlay look like a bargain in a few years. In addition, with Real Madrid reportedly unwilling to break the bank to secure his services, Manchester United should have a handy chance to land him.
