Manchester United have reportedly offered €30 million to sign Fermin Lopez, with Barcelona rejecting the bid for the 21-year-old.
According to a report by SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Fermin Lopez is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils have submitted a bid worth €30 million to sign the 21-year-old midfield prospect. However, Barcelona rejected the offer “with a smile” and will unlikely listen to offers for the young midfielder.
Who is Fermin Lopez?
Fermin Lopez has established a foothold in the first-team squad at FC Barcelona after a superb 2023/24 campaign with Barcelona. A native of El Campillo, the Spaniard began his youth career at his hometown club before having a short stint with Recreativo de Huelva. He rose in prominence at Real Betis before Barcelona snapped him up in July 2016.
The 21-year-old progressed through the ranks at the Catalan club’s fabled La Masia division before making his first-team debut at the onset of the 2023/24 season. Lopez turned out 42 times across all competitions for Barcelona last term, chipping in with 11 goals and one assist.
Meanwhile, Fermin Lopez’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known outfits across Europe. Premier League clubs, in particular, are interested in the Barcelona academy graduate, with Manchester United emerging as the latest suitor.
Premier League move in the pipeline?
Manchester United’s interest in Fermin Lopez is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Donny van de Beek. In addition, they have not converted Sofyan Amrabat’s loan deal into a permanent transfer.
So, Lopez has emerged as a viable target, with Manchester United submitting a bid worth €30 million to secure his services. However, Barcelona responded “with a smile” before rejecting the proposal, as they do not want to part ways with him in the summer transfer window.
While the report suggests an “irrefutable offer” can turn Barcelona’s head, it is unclear if Manchester United will break the bank to secure Fermin Lopez’s services in the summer transfer window. An extended stay at the Catalan club is the likeliest scenario for the 21-year-old Spanish international.
