La Liga champions Real Madrid will reportedly beat Barcelona to the signature of 15-year-old Spanish attacking sensation Jairo Morilla.
According to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Real Madrid and Barcelona have been vying for the signature of Jairo Morilla. While the Blaugrana held talks to land the 15-year-old Real Betis sensation, the teenage striker will join Los Blancos in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Verdiblancos unsuccessfully attempted to keep hold of the youngster.
Who is Jairo Morilla?
Jairo Morilla is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. A centre-forward by trade, the Spaniard can also play on the flanks, impressing the onlookers with his versatility. Meanwhile, he has already made his debut for Spain’s under-16 side, turning out twice for the team.
The 15-year-old has been with Real Betis since the pre-benjamin category and has represented the Andalusian club until the Juvenil B level. Meanwhile, Morilla has won several tournaments with Spain’s under-15 side, while his exploits have captured the attention of several high-profile clubs.
However, Jairo Morilla’s spell with Real Betis will end in the summer transfer window. While the Verdiblancos attempted to keep hold of the Spanish attacking sensation, he has been eager to embark on a new adventure. That will come at Real Madrid, with Los Blancos fending off competition from Barcelona and other clubs to secure his services.
Real Madrid move on the horizon
Real Madrid and Barcelona often lock horns in the market for highly-rated prospects. The latest reports have linked the two Spanish behemoths with Javi Guerra, Rafael Venancio, and others. Jairo Morilla has also emerged as a mutual target for Real Madrid and Barcelona.
However, the Blaugrana must look elsewhere, with Real Madrid winning the race to sign him from Real Betis. While the report does not mention which team Los Blancos will assign the 15-year-old to, he has a bright future ahead of him. Meanwhile, other clubs in Spain and abroad were also keen on signing the Spanish youth international.
Morilla will be raring to get started at Real Madrid after sealing the agreement to join the Merengues. It will be interesting to see if he can carve a place for himself in the first-team squad at the Santiago Bernabeu in a few years.
