Serie A giants Juventus are reportedly ready to include Weston McKennie in the deal to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa this summer.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Douglas Luiz is the subject of interest from Juventus. The Serie A giants are keen on signing a midfielder in the summer transfer window. However, they want to drive down Aston Villa’s asking price for Douglas Luiz by offering Weston McKennie to the West Midlands club.
Weston McKennie, Douglas Luiz and their solid 2023/24 campaigns
Weston McKennie was resurgent in the 2023/24 season. The 25-year-old was in a spot of bother over his long-term future at Juventus after spending the second half of the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Leeds United, where he suffered relegation from the Premier League. He did not do much to improve his fortunes either.
However, the USMNT international was one of the creative forces for Juventus this term, providing ten assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. McKennie’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Aston Villa might be his prospective destination.
On the other hand, Douglas Luiz was exceptional in the 2023/24 campaign, amassing ten goals and ten assists in 53 appearances across all competitions. The Brazilian international was instrumental in Aston Villa clinching a top-four finish this term. However, the Villans are in a spot of bother on the financial front and need to sell players before greeting new signings this summer.
Part-exchange deal on the horizon?
Such a situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs that want to sign Luiz in the summer transfer window. Juventus will also aim to take advantage of Aston Villa’s situation by offering Weston McKennie in the deal to sign Douglas Luiz in the summer transfer window.
Interestingly, McKennie is a summer target for Aston Villa as they look to prepare for the UEFA Champions League. However, the Villans value the USMNT international at €15 million, meaning Juventus might have to pay €25-30 million to Aston Villa to sign Luiz.
