Serie A club Genoa and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly discussing over a permanent move for 23-year-old full-back Djed Spence.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Djed Spence is the subject of interest from Genoa over a permanent move in the summer transfer window. The Serie A club and Tottenham Hotspur are in talks over a deal for the 23-year-old, with the North London club ready to part ways with him.
Djed Spence and his Tottenham nightmare
Djed Spence has failed to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Tottenham Hotspur since arriving from Middlesbrough in July 2022. The move was a colossal failure as then-manager Antonio Conte did not sanction the transfer of the London native, who remained at the bottom of the pecking order before joining Stade Rennais on loan in January 2023.
Another loan move followed last summer, with Leeds United keeping him until January 2024. The latest temporary transfer was to Genoa, with the Serie A club securing Spence’s services in the winter window. That helped the 23-year-old full-back, as he turned out 16 times in Serie A for Il Grifone.
Spence’s loan stint with Genoa has ended, and he stares at an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium heading into the summer transfer window. However, a permanent move to Stadio Luigi Ferraris might be on the cards for the Englishman.
Extended spell in Serie A on the horizon?
Tottenham had reportedly considered including Djed Spence in the deal to sign Radu Dragusin in January. So, they have been open to permanently parting ways with the 23-year-old, which might happen in the summer transfer window. And talks over a deal have begun between Genoa and Tottenham Hotspur.
The North London giants are ready to finally sell Spence in the upcoming summer transfer window. Genoa will push to complete a permanent move for the London native with an agreement on the cards.
It will be interesting to see if talks between the Serie A club and Tottenham conclude anytime soon. However, an extended spell in Serie A is on the cards for Spence as he looks to end his nightmare at the North London club.
