Barcelona front-runners to sign Luis Diaz

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly in the pole position to sign Liverpool attacking mainstay Luis Diaz.

According to a report by Liverpool ECHO, Luis Diaz is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keen on bolstering their offensive department in the summer transfer window. And they lead the race to sign the 27-year-old Liverpool attacker if he leaves the Merseyside club.

The Luis Diaz story

Luis Diaz has been a mainstay in the final third for Liverpool since arriving from FC Porto in January 2022. While the Colombian international has blown hot and cold in the last two and a half years, he remains a pivotal figure for the Merseyside club.

The 27-year-old had some off-field distractions this season which impacted his performances. Nevertheless, Diaz contributed to 18 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net 13 times while providing five assists. Meanwhile, despite the player’s inconsistent displays, his stock in the market is high.

Widespread reports have linked the Liverpool attacking mainstay with a few high-profile clubs across Europe. The South American forward has been a target for Paris Saint-Germain. However, a move to Barcelona might be on the cards if he leaves the Merseyside club in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona interested

Barcelona’s interest in Luis Diaz is understandable. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Raphinha and Ferran Torres. While the duo has been productive this season, they might not be at FC Barcelona next season due to the never-ending financial issues.

Diaz has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, with Hansi Flick reportedly pushing for the Colombian international’s signature. The latest report has revealed that the Catalan giants are the front-runners to sign the 27-year-old from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

However, it is unclear if Liverpool will be open to parting ways with the former FC Porto attacker in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Diaz will likely cost a premium if he leaves the Merseyside club, which might play spoilsport for the Blaugrana.
